Step 1
Confirm Your Dosha Type Before Booking
Three types — each needs a different puja:
• Kala Sarpa Dosha: all planets trapped between Rahu and Ketu in your birth chart
• Naga Dosha: harm caused to a serpent in this or a past life
• Ashlesha Dosha: birth under Ashlesha nakshatra
Confirm your type with a Jyotishi before you travel. Wrong puja = incomplete remedy.

Step 2
Pick the Right Day to Visit
Naga Panchami (July/August, Shravan month) — highest energy, most crowded, arrive by 4 AM.
Ashlesha nakshatra days — most powerful for Ashlesha Dosha, check your Panchangam.
Saturdays — specifically potent for Kala Sarpa Dosha.
Avoid Sunday peak season — queues can exceed 6 hours.
Step 3
3-Day Preparation Before You Travel
Starting 3 days before your visit:
• No non-vegetarian food, no alcohol, no onion or garlic
• Sleep on a simple mat — traditional preparation for major Naga pujas
• Recite "Om Subrahmanyaya Namaha" 108x every morning
• Wear white or light-coloured clothing for the visit itself
Step 4
Kumaradhara River Bath — Do This Before Anything Else
The ghat is 200m left of the main temple entrance — follow signs for "Kumaradhara Ghat".
Enter the river facing east. Immerse fully 3 times. Exhale completely on each dip.
After the 3rd dip: stand waist-deep, recite "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" 9 times.
Exit. Change into temple attire. Only then enter the compound.
This is not optional — it is the first act of the puja.
Step 5
Puja Booking Counter — Go Here Before the Queue
Counter opens 6 AM. Morning slots fill by 9 AM weekdays, 7:30 AM weekends.
Afternoon Ashlesha Bali available after 12 PM if morning is full — ask specifically.
What to tell the clerk:
• Puja type (Ashlesha Bali / Sarpa Samskara / Homam)
• Your name, father's name, gotra (say "Kashyapa" if unknown), birth nakshatra
Book first. Buy materials second. Join darshan queue third. This sequence is fixed.
Step 6
Ashlesha Bali — The Core Remedy
Mandapam is 80m left of the main entrance — separate from the main sanctum.
You sit facing the priest across a rice-flour mandala.
When priest hands darbha grass: hold with both hands, fingers pointing up. Do not put it down.
The priest recites Sarpa Sukta and performs the Bali ritual (45–90 min).
At the end, priest ties the Naga Raksha Sutra on your right wrist — receive it with both hands cupped.
Step 7
Main Sanctum Darshan — After the Bali, Not Before
Join the sanctum queue only after Ashlesha Bali is complete.
The deity here is in Shesha Shayana form — Subramanya reclining on coiled Vasuki. This is the specific form that releases the dosha.
At the sanctum entrance: pause. Take 3 slow breaths. State your dosha type silently.
Do not rush past. Stand for at least 30 seconds. Exit to the left.
Step 8
Naga Grove — Serpent Offering
The grove is behind the main temple — a Naga idol installed in a sacred Ashwatha (fig) tree.
Pour raw milk at the roots of the tree. Add turmeric and red flowers.
Place your right hand on the Naga idol. State your full name and gotra aloud — once, clearly.
This is where the serpent consciousness is directly addressed. It is brief. Do not rush it.
Step 9
Sarpa Samskara — Only if Priest Recommends
This is for severe Kala Sarpa Dosha or multi-generational lineage curses. The priest decides — you do not request it.
Performed at sunrise (5:30 AM slot). Pre-booking at the counter is essential. Takes 2–3 hours.
Bring a white cloth (available at temple shops if you don't have one).
Do not self-diagnose for this puja — ask the Ashlesha Bali priest on the day.
Step 10
40-Day Follow-Up — Required to Complete the Remedy
The puja initiates the remedy. These 40 days complete it:
• Daily: recite "Om Subrahmanyaya Namaha" 108x (morning, before eating)
• Every Saturday: pour milk at any Naga idol near your home
• Do not kill any snake or reptile during these 40 days
• Day 40: visit any Subramanya temple, offer a coconut — the cycle closes here
