Step by step
Complete Protocol
10 steps · follow in sequence at the temple
Step 1
Understanding What You Are Asking For
Before visiting the Golden Temple, distinguish between two kinds of wealth requests: (1) Emergency wealth (debt relief, immediate financial crisis) — for these, the guides for Tirupati Venkateshwara or Srirangam Ranganathaswamy are more appropriate, as those deities address urgency. (2) Sustained, growing, righteous abundance — this is what Lakshmi Narayani at Sripuram specializes in. The gold on the temple is the symbol of permanent, self-replenishing prosperity, not emergency rescue. If you are seeking to establish a long-term relationship with abundance — for a business, an investment, a career, or simply a life of dignified sufficiency — this is your temple.
Step 2
The 1.8 km Star Path — A Walking Wealth Meditation
The approach to the Golden Temple is a 1.8 km star-shaped walkway (the layout resembles a Sri Chakra — the sacred geometric diagram of Lakshmi's energy field). Walk the entire path — do not take the shuttle cart unless physically unable. As you walk, do not make phone calls or check social media. Use the walk as a moving meditation: with each step, internally recite "Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namaha" (the wealth-specific Lakshmi mantra). 1.8 km at a moderate pace takes 25–30 minutes — 1,500 to 2,000 repetitions of the mantra, which is the equivalent of a full mala practice performed while in motion.
Step 3
Akshaya Tritiya Visit — The Annual Wealth Ceremony
Akshaya Tritiya (the third day of the waxing moon in Vaishakha month — April/May each year) is universally considered the most auspicious day for wealth-related intentions. "Akshaya" means "that which never diminishes" — prosperity established on this day is considered self-perpetuating. At the Golden Temple, the Akshaya Tritiya puja involves a full Sri Suktam Homam with the Goddess adorned in pure gold ornaments. Even visiting on Akshaya Tritiya without the special puja — simply walking the gold path and receiving the Goddess's darshan — is considered sufficient to establish a year's worth of Lakshmi's active blessing. Come early (5 AM) as queues reach 4–6 hours on this day.
Step 4
Investment Document Consecration
Bring physical documents representing your wealth or investment: a mutual fund statement, property deed, gold purchase receipt, business registration certificate, bank passbook, or a printed statement of your financial goals for the next 5 years. Place them in a clean yellow envelope. At the archana counter, ask for the "Aishwarya Puja" (prosperity puja) and present the envelope. The priest places the documents at the Goddess's feet during the Sri Suktam recitation. These documents return to you as physically consecrated by the Goddess's energy — keep them in your locker or home safe. For investments: review these documents on the first Friday of each subsequent month for the next year, mentally renewing the Goddess's blessing.
Step 5
Sri Suktam Abhishekam — The Core Wealth Ritual
Book the Sri Suktam Abhishekam at the counter (requires booking in advance for the same day — arrive early). This ritual involves the 16 Vedic verses of the Sri Suktam (the Rig Vedic hymn of Lakshmi, over 3,000 years old) performed with: (1) Saffron water poured over the Goddess (saffron = the golden color of Lakshmi's field), (2) Honey (Madhu — the sweetness of rightfully earned wealth), (3) Gold-leaf water (water in which a gold coin has been immersed overnight — brought by devotees or available at the temple). Witness the full abhishekam from beginning to end — the entire Sri Suktam takes 15–20 minutes to chant. The theertham (the gold-saffron water) from this abhishekam is the most precious wealth prasad available in contemporary South India.
Step 6
Darshan — Meeting the Golden Goddess
When you reach the inner sanctum for darshan, you will see Sri Lakshmi Narayani — the combined male-female divine form — in a golden glow created by the surrounding gold surfaces reflecting the lamp light. At this moment, do not make a list of things you want. Instead, state one thing: "I open to receive what you have for me, and I commit to circulate it well." The Goddess of abundance responds to receptivity and circulatory commitment — the willingness to let wealth flow through you (via giving, investment, generosity) rather than hoard it. This distinction, expressed sincerely in the moment of darshan, is what activates the sustained abundance channel.
Step 7
Annadanam — The Wealth Circulation Ritual
The Golden Temple serves free meals (Annadanam) to all visitors daily, without discrimination of religion, caste, or nationality. After your darshan and puja, go to the Annadanam hall and eat the meal — even if you are not hungry, eat something. Then, before leaving the complex, make a donation to the Annadanam fund at the donation counter (any amount you feel moved to give — Rs 100 to Rs 10,000). This act completes the wealth circuit: you have received the Goddess's blessing (darshan, puja, theertham), you have received her food (Annadanam), and you have returned a portion to the system that feeds others. This "wealth circulation" is the living demonstration of Lakshmi's principle — wealth that flows returns multiplied.
Step 8
Gold Purchase Blessing (If Applicable)
If you are planning to buy gold (jewellery, gold coins, or gold bonds) — and buying gold is considered the traditional "locking" of a Lakshmi blessing in physical form — visit the Golden Temple before the purchase. After the puja, if you intend to buy gold within 48 hours: bring a gold coin (any size) or a piece of gold jewellery you already own to the temple and have it touched to the Goddess's feet at the sanctum entrance (the priest allows this on request — state "gold sparsha darshan" — gold-touch darshan). The gold that has touched the Goddess's idol carries her Shakti permanently and should be kept as a Lakshmi murti in your home's puja area, not worn.
Step 9
Night Visit — The Gold Illumination
If your visit allows, stay until after sunset and experience the Golden Temple at night. 100,000 lamps illuminate the complex and the gold surfaces reflect them — creating a visual field unlike anything else in India. This is not merely aesthetic — in the Vedic tradition, light (Tejas) is the subtle substance of Lakshmi. Walking the star path at night, surrounded by the reflection of 100,000 lamps on 1,500 kg of gold, is a direct experience of the Goddess's energy field in its most concentrated physical form. The night walk takes 45 minutes and is free. Do not photograph — simply experience.
Step 10
21-Day Post-Visit Abundance Practice
For 21 days after your visit: (1) Each Friday morning, light a ghee lamp and recite the full Sri Suktam once (16 verses, 10–12 minutes — available in audio form widely). (2) Keep the consecrated document envelope in your puja area until the next Akshaya Tritiya. (3) Give something away each Friday — money, food, clothing, time — as a weekly wealth-circulation act. The amount is not important; the consistency is. (4) On the 21st day (the third Friday after your visit), make a conscious investment or savings decision of any size — this is the "planting" action that completes the wealth-activation cycle. The Goddess's energy established in the first 21 days supports the growth of what is planted on Day 21.

No — the Golden Temple at Sripuram explicitly welcomes people of all religions, nationalities, and backgrounds. This is one of its founding principles. Non-Hindus may enter, walk the path, attend the Annadanam, and participate in most pujas. Check with the counter at the time of booking, as certain Vedic rituals have traditional requirements.
Yes — 1,500 kg of 24-karat gold plating on the vimanam and the path structure, valued at over Rs 300 crore. It was installed between 2005 and 2007.
