Before you visit Arulmigu Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, avoid the mistakes that waste time, money, and faith

The Padmatheertham tank is on the east side of the temple. Ritual bathing here before the main darshan is traditional and strongly recommended. As you enter the water, silently state your business or wealth-related intention. The Lord's role here is as cosmic custodian of all wealth — frame your petition as a request to the custodian: "May the Lord protect and multiply what I have built through right effort."

Padmanabha's reclining form is so large that it is viewed through three separate entry points: (1) At the first window (head): see the Lotus emerging from the navel with Brahma — the creation principle. Place your business vision here — what you are creating. (2) At the second window (torso): see Lakshmi at the Lord's feet — the maintenance principle. Place your existing assets and wealth you want protected here. (3) At the third window (feet): see the sages — the completion principle. Express gratitude for what has already been given. Move through all three deliberately.

Book at the Archana Counter (east entrance) — give your name, gotra, and purpose. The archana for Aiswaryam (prosperity) or Vyapar Vriddhi (business growth) is a specific variant. If you want your business entity named, give the business name as well. The priest chants 1,008 names of Vishnu while offering flowers one by one. This takes 45–60 minutes. Attend the full archana — do not leave early.

Padmanabha's two consorts address different wealth dimensions. (1) Offer white lotus and milk to Sri Devi (Lakshmi) for financial prosperity and deal-flow. (2) Offer red hibiscus and soil from your business premises to Bhu Devi (Earth Goddess) for protection of physical assets, property, and premises. Both offerings should be made with a specific verbal intent stated to the presiding priest.

The Thulasi Theertham (Tulsi-leaf sacred water from the Lord's abhishekam) is the most precious prasad. Receive it in both hands, drink it all immediately — do not refuse it or set it aside. The Vella Nivedyam (white rice with coconut milk) is also distributed — eat it at the temple. The tradition holds that this theertham, consumed at the temple, activates the Kubera Yantra within the complex to bless the devotee.

Ekadashi (the 11th lunar day) is when the temple performs extended pujas and the lines are shorter as traditional devotees fast. The most powerful Ekadashis: Vaikunta Ekadashi (December/January — when the Swarga Vadakkini golden doors open), and any Ekadashi that falls on a Friday. Check a Kerala Panchangam or the Devaswom Board website for the exact date.

Within the temple complex there is a small shrine to Kubera (the divine treasurer). Padmanabha is considered the superior of Kubera, and Kubera himself keeps Padmanabha's treasury. Offer a gold or silver coin here with your business name and the amount of growth you seek. This is the most direct "transaction" with the treasury-keeping principle within the temple system.

For 40 days after your visit (40 = Mandalam, the traditional Kerala completion cycle): (1) Light a ghee lamp on all Ekadashis that fall within this window — approximately 2–3 will occur. (2) Recite the 16th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita (Daivasampat — Divine Qualities) once per week — this dissolves Asuric tendencies that destroy wealth. (3) Keep the Thulasi plant watered and cared for at your business premises — its health is a live indicator of the prosperity energy in the space.
